Today, the gardens are a gleaming emerald in Villandry’s crown, made up of terraces with distinct Renaissance rooms. Perhaps the most magnificently patterned is the decorative vegetable garden nearest the house, consisting of nine squares with unique geometric designs. The second terrace houses the ornamental rooms, planted with timeless boxwoods and welcoming blossoms. In the third level, an herbed garden, maze, and water garden invite exploration, while the sun gardens on the fourth terrace prompt contemplation. This last addition was made in 2008 by current owner Henri Carvallo, who based the design on a sketch from his great-grandfather.
