Turmeric Margarita and Non-Alcoholic Turmeric Sparkler
Turmeric Margarita
Serves: 1 serving
 
Ingredients
  • 2 ounces silver tequila
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1 ounce fresh orange juice
  • 1 ounce Turmeric Honey Syrup (recipe follows)
  • Fresh lime wedge, optional
  • Pink salt, optional
  • Garnish: citrus rounds, edible blossoms*
Instructions
  1. Combine tequila, lime juice, orange juice, and Turmeric Honey Syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15 seconds.
  2. To salt the rim of the cocktail glass, if desired, rub the outside edge of the rim with lime and roll the wet edge in pink salt. Let dry.
  3. Fill glass with ice.
  4. Strain tequila mixture into glass. Garnish with citrus rounds and edible blossoms, if desired.
Notes
*We used untreated, organically grown fresh dahlia petals, cosmos, and marigold blossoms.

Note: Willa Van Nostrand, owner of Little Bitte Artisanal Cocktails, suggests replacing the tequila in this recipe with mezcal for a variation that includes layers of smoke and minerality.

Turmeric Honey Syrup
Serves: 1 serving
 
Ingredients
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 inches turmeric root, finely sliced or grated*
  • 1 cup honey
Instructions
  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup water and finely sliced or grated turmeric root; bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Remove from heat and stir in honey until it dissolves. Let mixture cool to room temperature.
  2. Using a fine-mesh strainer, strain liquid into a container, discarding solids. Funnel syrup into a clean bottle or jar. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
*If fresh turmeric is not available, replace with 1 tablespoon turmeric powder.

  1. Fill a cocktail glass with ice; top with lime juice, orange juice, Turmeric Honey Syrup, and sparkling water. Garnish with citrus rounds and edible blossoms.
