Traquair House: A Lasting Legacy

Once only accessible by a narrow winding staircase tucked behind a corner door, the King’s Room served as sleeping quarters for Scottish kings and queens visiting Traquair for hunting parties. Situated in the original tower house—the oldest part of the home—these quarters welcomed royals such as Mary Queen of Scots. Her infant son, James, who grew up to be King James VI of Scotland, slept in a cradle at the foot of the bed.
