The Britts’ 10-foot-tall evergreen, carefully selected and cut at a nearby tree farm, brims with four generations of family mementos, such as this ornate, golden oval featuring a Victorian sleigh ride. It also bears a complete set of the White House Historical Association’s collection of ornaments. A porcelain angel, dressed in red velvet robes, rests on top. Pictured on the right, an early nineteenth-century ebonized marquetry tantalus holds a set of cut- and etched-crystal stemware and bottles—a gracious gift to the family.
