The Shops of Denver

Victoriana
In downtown Denver, a block of Victorian buildings called Larimer Square is home to Victoriana Antique & Fine Jewelry, a shop selling breathtaking pieces—from gold-filled Victorian bar pins to signed platinum and diamond necklaces from the 1930s. Proprietors David and Veronica Prebble work with jewelry buyers throughout the world, and the couple travels to jewelry shows to find the best-quality pieces possible. “For the past two hundred years, jewelry has been the highest expression of the various design periods,” David says. “We appreciate well-executed design from almost every period.”

“We have items from the early 1800s through the 1950s,” Victoriana co-owner David Prebble says. The collection includes delicate cameos, fine diamond engagement rings, and beautiful costume pieces, among others. “Our constantly changing inventory includes a complete range of prices and materials,” he adds.

  1. I went to the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver for interior design studies and lived so close to downtown that I could see the tall buildings from my apartment window. I also interned at a designer showroom called Shears and Windows on Blake St. which was the decorator street for wholesale items.

I don’t remember these nice retail stores there at the time, but I was a poor and struggling student, so it was not likely I would have ever seen these stores or others like it. I was too busy between my studies and daydreaming about all the designer furniture and goods that surrounded me each day!

I would love to see Denver today and check out these stores featured in this 2010 issue.

    Ah, memories……
