Noël en Provence

For those celebrating Calendales, such as the Massets in Provence, France, the holidays begin with the Feast of Sainte Barbe on December 4 and continue into the new year. It is a time of joy, one that is focused on family togetherness. The décor of one well-appointed apartment, lovingly renovated, is evidence of the season’s grace.

The Sweet Traditions of Gingerbread
In the kitchen of artisan Ivana Smulikova, Christmas is especially sweet. Her cookies, known as lebkuchen to some, taai-taai to others, are, to Slovakians, medovniky. Ivana’s decorations—intricately patterned lace, perfect leaves, and impossibly symmetrical snowflakes—are handmade works of art. “With every one of my honey cookies,” she says, “I bring happiness and joy to someone.”

Winter Greens
The studio of Leaf and Petal owner Lydia Pursell is filled with the fragrant scents of pine, cedar, and rosemary. During the holidays, it becomes a verdant wonderland. Her arrangements of greenery, delicate bundles of herbs, and boxwood topiaries work together to create a lush and festive oasis.

Celebrating Christmas in St. Augustine
Centuries of history are at the heart of the richly captivating city of St. Augustine, Florida. Flagler College, which includes the opulent Ponce de Léon hotel; Aviles Street, which appeared on archival maps as early as the 1570s; and Memorial Presbyterian Church, with architecture inspired by St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, Italy, are just a handful of treasures this gorgeous landmark has to offer.

Our November/December 2016 issue of Victoria will be on newsstands October 5, or order online today!

  3. Ahhhh…. yet another wonderful issue from Victoria! My favourite magazine has done it again with this lovely Holiday issue.

While the cold climate of New England can easily remind me of the approaching Christmas season, it’s actually the November/December issue of Victoria which gets me into the Christmas spirit – couple that with the special Classics Holiday Bliss issue, I find myself getting ready for the decorating, menu ideas, and gift-giving season!

This issue doesn’t disappoint and my congratulations to the editors and staff for creating such a great issue!

    Happy Holidays from…
