So dedicated is she to this beloved bloom, Emily celebrated her fortieth birthday by inviting friends to a “Tulipalooza” party, where they planted 40,000 bulbs, earning one of her coveted winter bouquets for every half hour they worked. Each year, she offers a Winter Tulip Bouquet Share, a subscription service where members receive cheerful posies to brighten the seemingly eternal frigid weather. As a special thank you to these devoted subscribers, von Trapp Flowers holds a Tulip Tea on the first bouquet pick-up day of the season. “There is nothing like quite like coming into a warm greenhouse on a cold day in February,” says Emily, “and strolling through thousands of tulips with a cup of tea in hand.”
