Blackberry Lemonade

Blackberry Lemonade
Makes approximately 2 quarts

Ingredients
  1. 2 cups blackberries
  2. 1⁄3 cup sugar
  3. 1 1/2 cups fresh lemon juice, chilled
  4. 1 1/2 cups Lemon Simple Syrup (recipe follows)
  5. 1 1/2 cups water or sparkling water, chilled
Lemon Simple Syrup
  1. 3 cups water
  2. 1 1/2 cups sugar
  3. 2 tablespoons lemon zest
Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, combine blackberries and sugar. Let stand for 30 minutes.
  2. In the container of a blender, blend blackberry mixture until smooth. Strain mixture through a fine-mesh sieve, discarding solids.
  3. In a gallon-size pitcher, combine lemon juice, Lemon Simple Syrup, and water; stir to combine. Stir blackberry mixture into lemonade mixture. Serve over ice.
Lemon Simple Syrup
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, and lemon zest over medium-high heat. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring constantly; reduce heat to low, and simmer, stirring constantly, until sugar is dissolved, 3 to 4 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat, and let cool completely.
  3. Strain mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into an airtight container, and refrigerate. Store, refrigerated, in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks.
