With her fairy-tale imagination and nimble fingers, Brooklyn, New York, artist Tamar Mogendorff populates her studio with a veritable zoo of whimsical feathered friends and charming creatures. Utilizing such unexpected materials as vintage linen, antique embroidery, pashmina, and even old newspapers, she lovingly imbues each hand-stitched item with distinctive details and a personality all its own. From colorful flocks of tiny birds perched on fabric birdhouses to graceful giant swans and herds of deer and gazelles, Tamar eschews perfection in favor of the homespun, handcrafted aesthetic that characterizes all her creations.
