One of my favorite things about late summer is the invitation to extend the season with the final crop of sun-ripened tomatoes pouring into my local farmers’ market—especially the heirloom varieties that pack so much flavor and sweetness. Maybe it’s the array of colors, the heady fragrance, or the fact that no two are exactly alike that I find so charming. But I am undeniably happy to see these mouthwatering reminders that warm weather is not quite over.
